SD&G OPP: “Enforcement action” coming to illegal ATV trail near Highway 401

If you drive on Highway 401 often, you might notice more police officers than usual in the coming weeks.

The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP Detachment is warning the public of “upcoming enforcement action” involving an illegal ATV trail near the highway’s South Stormont stretch. According to officers, the trail is parallel to the north side of the highway, west of the Post Road crossover at Cornwall and Boundary Road.

“The SD&G OPP with the assistance of the OPP Snowmobile, ATV and Vessel Enforcement (S.A.V.E) team will be stepping up enforcement action in the coming weeks to curb this dangerous action,” the detachment says in a Facebook post.

If you’re an ATV driver looking for a trail to use, the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville website has a list of legal ATV trails throughout the region, in and around places like Prescott, Augusta, and South and North Dundas.
