Clark says Trump, local economy highlight concerns after re-election

Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark said he’s ready to get to work after securing another win in the provincial election on Thursday night.

Clark, who won the riding by 12,715 votes, told MyPrescottNow that U.S. President Donald Trump is having a big impact on Ontario.

“I think the tariffs really affect everything, our economy will be changed significantly given what Donald Trump is proposing.”

Liberal Lorna Jean Edmonds finished second in the riding with 27.1 per cent of the vote, while Chris Wilson of the NDP picked up 9.8 per cent and Green Party candidate Fiona Jager picked up 4.6 per cent.

The MPP said he will work hard on healthcare and bringing more doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners and PSWs to the riding.

“And obviously the local economy. I am going to work hard to protect jobs and grow jobs.”

The Conservatives picked up a third straight majority government, which hasn’t been accomplished in Ontario politics since 1959.

Liberal Lorna Jean Edmonds finished second in the riding with 27.1 per cent of the vote, while Chris Wilson of the NDP picked up 9.8 per cent and Green Party candidate Fiona Jager picked up 4.6 per cent.

The Conservatives took 80 seats at Queen’s Park, followed by the NDP (27), Liberals (14) and the Green Party (2).

Bobbi Ann Brady was elected as an independent in Haldimand-Norfolk.

Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie failed to win a seat in Mississauga. Premier Doug Ford, NDP leader Marit Stiles and Green Party leader Mike Schreiner won their ridings.
