MPP Steve Clark has thrown his hat into the ring regarding the UCDSB school closures review, calling for a halt to the process.
This came in a statement from the Legislative Assembly on Monday when Clark chastised the provincial Liberal government for cutting top-up funding which has put hundreds of rural schools across Ontario at risk.
Clark has since written to Education Minister Mitzie Hunter and UCDSB Board Chairman Jeff McMillan asking for the restoration of the funding and for the review process to be put on hold.
Clark believes community input is needed to better solve the issue of empty classrooms and has said he is fighting for rural education and the students’ ability to learn close to where they live.
Of the 29 schools slated for closure by the UCDSB, ten are in the Leeds and Grenville area.
