A new bill that is bringing a 61.5% tax on small time craft distilleries in Ontario has left Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark frustrated.
Clark says a tax this heavy could put local distilleries like Kings Lock Craft Distillery in Johnstown out of business before they even get going.
Clark says he doesn’t understand why a graduated tax wasn’t applied to distillers, as was the case in the past with craft breweries and wineries.
Bill 70 will be debated in the House of Commons today, where Clark is set to vote against it.
