The OPP is telling drivers to “Lock It OR Lose It”. The campaign was created to bring awareness about preventing theft from vehicles.
A “Lock It OR Lose It” notice is placed on every vehicle checked by police with specific safety precautions that were ignored and simple prevention tips. Those tips could include a reminder to always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key.
Police say auto theft rates are up in Canada for the second year in a row, with 79,000 vehicle thefts taking place last year. Police also reminds drivers to park their vehicle in well-lit areas and never leave valuable objects or packages in full view.
