Regional OPP Urge Drivers To Lock Their Vehicles After Theft Surge

The OPP in Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry continue to tell drivers to “Lock It OR Lose It”. The campaign is in place to remind drivers to lock their vehicles and not leave any valuables in sight.

This comes after reports of several vehicles being entered into in South Stormont.

Police will continue to check vehicles in parking lots, to see if you’re following their tips. Police will also leave a notice on your vehicle, if it has been checked, letting you know if you’ve failed to follow any of their guidelines.

You can help prevent theft by following some of these crime prevention tips:

• Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key.

• If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle.

• Keep your vehicle registration certificate/proof of insurance on you at all times.

• Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area.

• Never leave valuable objects or packages in full view. Put them in the trunk.

• Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.
