Higher Death Toll On OPP Roads In 2016

More people died on OPP-patrolled roads in 2016 than in years past.

Police say 309 people died in collisions last year, which is on top of 23 off-road vehicle deaths, 16 snowmobile deaths, and 38 pedestrian deaths.

According to the OPP, distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving, and not wearing a seat belt were factors in about 75% of these deaths.

Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair is labelling this a wake-up call to drivers, passengers, and pedestrians that they need to be safer in 2017.
