Boaters who cross into Canadian waters from the United States might not have to check in anymore this summer.
Two bills are currently being worked on by both Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes Senator Bob Runciman and Leeds-Grenville MP Gord Brown.
The bills would let boaters cruise through Canadian waters without checking in with customs as long as they do not drop anchor or come ashore.
Runciman says its difficult to know when boaters have crossed the border as it is not clearly marked in the water. This would also allow Canada Border Services officers to focus on more important issues.
The bill still needs to work its way through the Senate and House of Commons.
