Residential Properties Facing Tax Raise

Homeowners in town could be seeing an increase in their property taxes.

A recommendation made at Committee of the Whole last night would see 70.5% of residential home owners’ property taxes go up, that’s 1099 homes in the area. Contrasting that, 29.5% – or 460 homes – would see a decrease.

Overall based on those proportions, that equals out to an extra $44 per property.

The average single family home would see a property tax increase of $32.70 for this year, with residential condominium units jumping up 7.9% to add an extra $138.21 onto their bills.

Mayor Brett Todd did bring up the idea of adding an extra 1% on all property taxes for next year to help address the town’s infrastructure deficit. He noted that it was too late into budget deliberations this year to entertain the idea.

This year’s budget is still waiting on approval from council.
