The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville would like to see speed limits reduced on Highway 401 during intense storms.
Council has passed a resolution asking Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation to reduce and enforce speed reductions on 400-series highways when the weather is severe.
Council member Joe Baptista put forth the resolution. He says that if it saves just one life, it’s worth it. Baptista is the mayor of Leeds and Thousand Islands Township where a fatal, multi-vehicle crash happened on Highway 401 in March. There was also a chemical spill that meant an evacuation of the area.
