South Nation Conservation is warning residents that live in low-lying areas of the St. Lawrence River that water levels could continue to increase.
South Nation Conservation says that due to rain and snow melt in the last few weeks, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River are at historic water levels and the St. Lawrence River levels are expected to remain higher over the next few weeks while dams are being operated.
The conservation authority says that water levels in Prescott, Augusta, Edwardsburgh/Cardinal and South Dundas will all depend on the outflow of the Moses-Saunders Dam at Cornwall and the level in Lake Ontario.
South Nation Conservation says wind could cause higher waves that could affect structures on properties close to the shore.
It also reminds residents to stay away from the water and banks that could be unstable.
