Mother hoping to bring awareness to paralyzing disease her daughter faces

A family in Leeds and Grenville is hoping to bring more awareness to a disease they have had to face.

Miranda Pellett says the family is hoping to bring awareness to Guillain-Barre syndrome after her two-year-old daughter Ameliya contracted the rare disease and became temporarily paralyzed from the neck down. Pellett says that Ameliya’s recovery time is expected to take about 18 months.

She says by bringing awareness, people might discover the signs more quickly, and it might also shorten the recovery time.

Pellett says the Woodland’s Chicken BBQ will take place at the MERC Hall in Maitland on Sunday, May 28th from 11:00am to 3:00pm. There will also be a silent auction. Pellett says funds from the event go to help a number of causes.

Tickets are available in advance until May 21st for $15 a piece. You can get tickets by contacting Miranda Pellett at 613-246-0797 or by emailing [email protected].
